Во иницијалната 1907 година, под тврдината Кале, во некогашната месност-Дизел, стационирана непосредно до реката Вардар, бил ископан бунар за питка вода. Водата била црпена механички преку потисна пумпа и преку систем од железни цевки (опремен и со водомери), најнапред се полнел резервоар со капацитет од 250 м3, изграден на ткн.Кота 239 (всушност на иста висина со бедемите на тврдината Кале), па потоа водата била дистрибуирана само до куќите од најблиската околина.
Револуционерен зафат во сферата на водоснабдувањето на Скопје, се случил три децении подоцна. Првата Каптажа Рашче е проектирана и изградена во 1936 година од каде водата до Скопје се доведувала преку цевковод со профил ф-400 мм. Во 1937 година, Скопје се поврзува со изворот Рашче, чија водоводна аорта учествува дури со 98 % вода во вкупниот водоснабдителниот систем.
Клучни години за водоснабдувањето на модерно Скопје претставува 1963 година кога е изградена новата Каптажа Рашче 1 и 1964 годинакога е изграден едниот главен цевковод со профил ф-1600 мм. од кој се доведува водата за потребите на Градот Скопје. Истата 1964 година е изградено и бунарското подрачје Нерези. Во 1969 година изграден е и вториот главен цевковод Рашче 2, со профилф-1600 мм. со што Скопје добива нов капацитет на чиста, квалитетна и питка изворска вода. Во 1991 година се изградени, а во 1992 година се пуштени во употреба бунарите од бунарското подрачје Лепенец.
